British Values at Woods Loke

British values can play an important role in education and how well a school promotes such values is an aspect of Ofsted’s inspection process.

British values are promoted in so much of what we do at Woods Loke, not least during our school assemblies and Religious Education sessions. They are integral to our vision for the school, which complements British values, and included within our school curriculum.

As well as actively promoting British values, the opposite also applies: we would actively challenge pupils, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British values, including ‘extremist’ views.

‘British values’ encompass a collection of rights integral to so many countries throughout the world. They encompass:

  • Democracy

  • The rule of law

  • Individual liberty

  • Mutual respect

  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

The government and Ofsted set out expectations which complement our aims and ethos.
