What are RISE Attendance & Behaviour Hubs?

RISE Attendance and Behaviour Hubs are networks of schools in each region who work together to share effective strategies and approaches for improving attendance and behaviour. Each hub is led by a ‘lead school’ which has been selected because it has strong attendance and behaviour practice to share with others.

Lead schools will focus on supporting senior leaders from other schools to: prioritise attendance and behaviour in their settings; use data to inform strategy and target interventions; embed a supportive culture and sense of belonging for all pupils and staff; implement robust day to day systems and processes; embed a whole-school approach to improving attendance and behaviour; and effectively communicate attendance and behaviour expectations to all stakeholders.

There are two levels of support which Lead schools are asked to provide: Enhanced support for two selected schools per term and Regional support for up to 40 selected schools.

Enhanced support

This pathway is aimed at partner schools that want and need more concerted support to improve their attendance and behaviour. Eligible partner schools will receive 10 days of leadership support over 3 terms from their allocated lead school. This support will be aimed at helping the partner school understand their attendance/ behaviour strengths and areas for development, as well as developing and implementing an improvement plan.

Each calendar year, lead schools will support up to six partner schools on a rolling basis. Delivery will be phased, with up to two new partner schools allocated to each lead school per term. This means that at any one time, a lead school will be working with a maximum of six partner schools.

Enhanced support will involve:

  • The partner school completing an attendance and behaviour self-assessment, and running surveys of pupils and staff to establish a baseline of behaviour in school.
  • A full-day attendance and behaviour deep dive exercise conducted in collaboration with the partner school to understand the issues in school
  • Joint development of an attendance and behaviour action plan
  • Training and guidance from the lead school to support implementation of the plan

Over the three terms, you will continue to work with the partner school to support delivery of the action plan. Partner and lead schools will regularly share relevant data and maintain communication about progress.

Regional support

This pathway for a majority of partner schools who want light touch support to help them make changes to their practice. As part of this pathway, partner schools will have access to a structured attendance and behaviour CPD offer, opportunities to visit the allocated lead school as part of a series of termly open day events, and opportunities to discuss and share effective practice with other schools in their hub. Each lead school will facilitate a network of 30-40 partner schools as part of this regional support pathway. Each partner school in the regional support pathway will be expected to complete an attendance and behaviour self-assessment which they will use to guide their engagement throughout the process.

Woods Loke has been selected as one of 10 Lead schools in the Eastern Region (and the only primary school in Norfolk and Suffolk). We are currently delivering enhanced support to schools in Woodbridge and Colchester and will be hosting our first regional open day on 18th March.

Our upcoming open days

Please note: Open days are for schools who have signed up to the DFE RISE support pathway. If you have not, but would like to be involved, we can direct you to further information on being involved in the pathway. Email office@woodsloke.org for information.
